The Lake Havasu City Police Department is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration to hold the 11th Annual Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 30, 2016, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. This one-day event will make it convenient for the public to rid their homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted pills at a drop-off location in front of the Lake Havasu City Police Department free of charge.
Properly disposing of the expired, unused, and unwanted pills will help prevent drug abuse and theft. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In the previous ten Take-Back events nationwide from 2010-2015, over 5,500,000 pounds or 2,750 tons of drugs were collected.
The drop-off box, located in front of the Lake Havasu City Police Department, is available 24-hours a day for disposal of unwanted medication.
