Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Richard Jay Elkins, 29, of Kingman, and Michael Lee Riehle, 33, of Golden Valley, early Tuesday (2/10) evening. Elkins was arrested for aggravated DUI, aggravated DUI with a blood alcohol concentration over .08%, aggravated DUI with a blood alcohol concentration over .15% and less than .20% and possession of marijuana, felonies. Riehle was arrested on a warrant for failure to pay fines issued by Kingman Justice Court and possession of marijuana, both misdemeanors. At about 6:41 p.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with only one working headlight in the 3100 block of Thompson Avenue. Deputies contacted Elkins, the driver, and Riehle, the passenger. Deputies smelled an odor of alcohol on Elkins. During conversations with Elkins, he said that he had been drinking since noon. Following the field sobriety tests (FST’s), Elkins was taken into custody. A records check showed Riehle to have a warrant for his arrest. Riehle was taken into custody without incident. An inventory search of the vehicle revealed a marijuana cigarette and a yellow pouch containing marijuana located inside the center console. Elkins advised the rolled marijuana cigarette is his. Riehle transported and booked into the Mohave County Jail. Elkins was transported to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office where an analysis revealed his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) to be .162%. A records check revealed Elkins to have a suspended driver’s license. He was transported and booked into the Mohave County Jail without incident.
