Five members of a northwest Phoenix family are dead in an apparent murder-suicide.  Police say all five people died of gunshot wounds.  A son living in the home apparently shot the other four family members, set the house on fire, then shot himself.

Four people were pronounced dead at the scene, while a girl approximately twelve years of age later died at the hospital.  Police and fire crews from Phoenix and Glendale responded to the scene.  Firefighters reported hearing shots after responding to the house fire there early Tuesday morning.  It wasn’t until the fire was, for the most part, out that they were able to call the scene contained.  Neighbors say they live in a quiet neighborhood, and expressed shock and sadness following news of the tragedy.  Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton visited the scene, and saluted the first responders whose actions “blew me away”.  Investigators planned to remain on the scene throughout the day looking for any evidence that may help them figure out what lead up to such a disturbing act of violence.
