An animal abuse case is being resolved through a plea agreement. The Mohave County Sheriff’s office began an investigation last September after fielding citizen reports regarding concern for the welfare of a horse and a donkey on property in Clack Canyon.
The charge related to the horse is dismissed in exchange for Jennifer Lintel’s guilty plea to an animal cruelty related count involving the donkey. Authorities said the malnourished donkey was destroyed due to a severe leg infection.
Defense attorney Ira Shiflett said Lintel lacked funds for use of a veterinarian and failed in her attempt to care for the donkey that had a history of infections for biting at bugs around its legs.
Lintel will be placed on probation and could get up to 180 days in jail when sentenced May 5 by Judge Billy Sipe.
