In the wake of last week’s mass shooting on an Oregon
community college campus, one ASU student group is petitioning President Michael
Crow make his campus safer by allowing students to carry weapons for
self-defense.

Students for Self Defense Spokesman
Jacob Pritchett says their petition already has 175 signatures and he expects
many more.  Pritchett says campus police
have muddied the issue with ambiguous statements about carrying pepper spray
but he has heard no response from school administrators. Pritchett says that
students need to be able to carry weapons for self-defense because there is
truth to the idea that, when seconds count, the police are only minutes
away.
