Reid Park Zoo in Tucson is mourning the loss “Bakka” the lion.  Spokesman Jason Jacobs says the two-year-old lion suffered from Valley fever and kidney disease for several months which contributed to his death.  “Bakka” died just before a scheduled exploratory surgery to find out why he was not responding to

treatment.  A Necropsy is being performed to determine “Bakka’s” cause of death.  Meanwhile, “Bakka’s brother is also being treated for Valley Fever, but vets are very optimistic about his recovery.  Jacobs says Valley Fever is a common illness among wild animals in the Southwest.  Vets take every precaution to treat animals and constantly monitor the well-being of all zoo animals.
