City Manager John Dougherty bristled during a personnel discussion at the last Kingman City Council meeting. Council members expressed concern that a reclassification of three Fire Department Battalion Chief positions might be unfair to similarly situated Police Lieutenants.
Dougherty sharply responded to the suggestion that staff should also be tending to the police personnel.
“I had a discussion with the police chief and he gave me generalities. I don’t need generalities and I told him I needed specifics,” Dougherty said. “I have no problem looking at the police department but he (Chief Devries) brought back nothing.”
The Council voted 4-3 to approve the Battalion Chief reclassifications.
Chief Devries said he’ll be advocating for his police lieutenants during the January 19th city council meeting.
