A Lake Havasu City man faces multiple assault counts and other charges after a domestic disturbance late Thursday, September 15. Police responded at 11:22 p.m. to the home on Smoketree Avenue
An injured woman in the home told officers that Derek Baxter, 38, became violent after coming home intoxicated. The woman said Baxter struck her repeatedly and assaulted her ten year old child who tried to intervene.
Police reports indicated Baxter became agitated when questioned by police before scuffling with officers. Baxter was tased twice and still struggling when he ordered his pit bull dog to attack officers, according to police reports.
An officer who was bitten in the wrist and leg reportedly shot and killed the dog. Baxter was subdued and incarcerated.
