A suspicious container bomb scare is over in downtown Kingman. Authorities secured an area near the Interstate 40-U.S. 93 interchange when a plastic tote container was discovered near an entry gate on the east end of the Mohave County Sheriff’s office property about 9:40 this morning. The nearby Kingman Justice Court building was evacuated as a precautionary measure as the Kingman Police Department bomb squad was deployed. Traffic was directed around the secured area while the remote-controlled bomb squad robot inched up to the container for an inspection and picture taking. Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Trish Carter said the robot’s disruptor was used to open the tote. She did not reveal its contents but said that nothing harmful or threatening was located inside. The drama ended and personnel began clearing the scene about 2:00 p.m. The apparent hoax is under investigation.
