A suspicious package discovered near a gate at the perimeter of the Mohave County Sheriff’s office property triggered deployment of the Police Department bomb squad in downtown Kingman Monday morning. The nearby Kingman Justice Court facility was evacuated when the plastic tote was discovered about 9:40 a.m.
The KPD bomb squad robot motored in close to the tote and pictures taken by the device are being reviewed, according to Police Chief Bob Devries. The department parked its heavy duty military vehicle near the scene and units established a secure perimeter and were diverting traffic in the vicinity of the Interstate 40 and U.S. 93 interchange.
The precautions were still in place three hours after the discovery. Devries said there no threatening phone calls or notes explaining the suspicious tote.
