23-hundred pounds of marijuana and a group of suspects are now in the hands of the Tucson Border Patrol sector. Border Patrol Agent Mark Landess says the seizures and arrests stem from three incidents in the desert over the past week.
The first took place January 16th in Santa Cruz, Arizona as six Mexican nationals were arrested after they were caught carrying 12 backpacks of marijuana through the desert.Agents were helped in the bust and seizure by a helped by a helicopter crew from the Office of Air and Marine.
On January 17th, agents discovered 800 pounds of marijuana estimated at over 400-thousand dollars on the Tohono O’odham Reservation. And on January 18th, 19 bundles of abandoned pot were found in the Vekol Valley. The total value of the dope is one-point-one million dollars.
