There’s a clarification from City Hall regarding Thursday’s exit of Kingman Building Official Jim McErlean. While Fire Chief Jake Rhoades said he had been fired, Human Resources Director Jackie Walker noted that McErlean was issued a notice of the City’s intent to terminate his employment.
It is unknown whether McErlean intends to exercise his right of appeal to fight for his job.
McErlean has been a lightning rod of criticism from a number of citizens and businesses who have complained over the last couple of years about excessively stringent building regulations and inconsistent enforcement action. The City at this time, however, has no comment on the reason for the McErlean action.
McErlean’s 20th anniversary of employment with the city would be in August.
