According to Ann Trilby, United Blood Services Representative due to the recent tragedies in Colorado Springs, CO and San Bernardino, CA it has taken their toll on our blood supply. “It has a domino effect, says Ann that occurs when unexpected situations happen and large amounts of blood are in need for a massive number of victims.” Hospitals are in need of more than the normal amount of blood, as are blood banks, and they have to reach out to other areas to help provide it. Last week, when the tragic situation happened in San Bernardino, our blood bank, located in Las Vegas, along with other blood banks in California were asked to help supply emergency amounts of blood, thus leaving our blood bank with an unanticipated short fall. Since the holidays are approaching, we do everything we can to “beef up” our supply for the anticipated need during this season. Tragedies such as these leave blood banks with a shortage of which only the public can help with. I strongly encourage all donors to go to a blood drive and give the gift of life – which would be deeply appreciated and needed now. “I want to give a special thank you to the sponsors and donors for their true commitment to saving a life and helping others during this past year, added Trilby. “ Without their commitment of time and volunteers our local blood supply wouldn’t be available for those in need. ”
For those who give blood during December, they will be entered into a drawing for 2 tickets to the Golden Boys Concert on January 9 at the E Center in Laughlin.
