CRASH VICTIM IDENTIFIED

The Department of Public Safety said a local resident was killed June 11 in a two vehicle collision in the northwest Arizona community of Golden Valley. Spokesman Bart Graves said Richard Cotter, 73, was dead at the scene of the 9:05 p.m. accident on highway 68. Graves said Cotter was not wearing a seatbelt and was fatally injured when ejected through the windshield of the Toyota LandCruiser he was driving. TRAFFIC FATALITY ON HIGHWAY 68

Golden Valley Fire District (GVFD) personnel and Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers responded at 9:06 p.m., Wednesday, to a two vehicle accident at Mile Post 21 on Highway 68 in Golden Valley. Upon arrival at the accident scene, the firefighters located one of the drivers laying on the ground  that had been ejected from his vehicle. GVFD firefighters attempted to revive the male driver, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Golden Valley Cactus Cleaners Cleaned Up In 2016

Golden Valley Cactus Cleaning volunteers cleaned up an amazing albeit disgusting and discouraging amount of trash, tires and boats from our once beautiful desert. Here are the statistics for the year: 67,520 pounds of trash, debris including approximately 10 boats plus 2354 tires removed from the desert. Quite the haul! In 2015 the Cactus Cleaners picked up 38,300 pounds of trash and 1015 tires. The totals since the group started in April 2015 is 105,820 pounds of trash, debris and boats and 3369 tires. RUFFF CLOSURE EXPECTED IN MARCH

A troubled animal shelter operation in Golden Valley is being shut down. Mohave County first notified operators of the Rescue Unwanted Furry Friends Foundation (RUFF) that a number of compliance violations were discovered at the shelter in Golden Valley in early December. Shelter operators were given time to fix violations but compliance had not been achieved by a December 30 follow-up inspection. Patty Mead, the Director of the Public Health Department, said county staff recommended kennel permit revocation after finding ongoing sanitation compliance violations.
