Facing the worst drought on record in the Colorado River Basin, and as lake levels continue to fall, the Southern Nevada Water Authority’s (SNWA) Board of Directors approved the construction of a low lake level pumping station. One Meadview man is charged with the attempted murder of another who was hospitalized for treatment of a gunshot wound. The Mohave County Sheriff’s office said that Joseph Edward Thomas, 67, was booked into jail on January 13. Acting sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sandy Edwards said that Thomas and a 70-year-old man were first involved in an altercation at the local VFW. Subsequently, Thomas allegedly fired shots from the roadway, injuring the older man who was inside his home on Sandy Point Drive. The Mohave County Sheriff’s office has released the name of a northwest Arizona resident killed in an ATV accident southeast of Meadview on Friday, September 30. Spokeswoman Trish Carter said Gilbert Dunn, 81, Meadview, was dead at the scene of the accident just before 1:00 p.m. Carter said Dunn was ascending about a 70% incline when the front wheels raised and his off road vehicle flipped and rolled down the hill about 100 feet, coming to rest on top of him. A newly-elected board has assumed local control of the Lake Mohave Ranchos Fire District (LMRFD). The previous Board was disbanded in early 2013 when the near bankrupt rural fire district was placed in the hands of John Flynn, a special administrator who helped nurse the district back to fiscal solvency.
