Mohave County’s Jail Director Named “Jail Director of the Year” by State Association

Lake Havasu City, Ariz.- Mohave County Jail Director, Don Bischoff, was awarded the 2015 Jail Director of the Year Award by the Arizona Jail Association this past month.  Bischoff was chosen for the award after careful selection and due in large part to his cost saving measures.  “Director Bischoff has worked hard over the past couple of years to save the County money when it comes to housing inmates in our jail,” Supervisor Buster Johnson stated.  “With the cost of housing prisoners continuing to rise on a daily basis, Bischoff has found ways to save money and has created a role model for other jails nationwide,” Johnson continued.According to Supervisor Johnson, Bischoff was very instrumental in having the county research and implement the use of the Affordable Care Act for inmates.  Last February, Supervisor Johnson placed an item on the agenda to have the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office research and develop a plan to implement the process of enrolling pre-sentenced and sentenced inmates onto the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to recover medical costs and obtain mental health and substance abuse services for those individuals housed in the Mohave County jail. “With Bischoff’s hard work and input on this item, Arizona lawmakers passed HB2105 this past legislative session which will cap reimbursement rates at specified levels for all counties, instead of only...

Accident in Laughlin thought to be DUI

A Laughlin man has been hospitalized after crashing his friend’s motorcycle on James A. Bilbray Parkway last night and authorities suspect alcohol was a factor. Todd Wayne Andrews, Jr., 28, of Laughlin, doesn’t even have a motorcycle license and Metro police say he wasn’t wearing a helmet. Andrews was airlifted to UMC in Las Vegas after initially being transported to WARMC in Bullhead City. Metro Lt. John Healy says Andrews borrowed his friend’s motorcycle and was travelling west on James Bilbray when the motorcycle jumped the curb just east of the intersection with Winston Woods Lane. Andrews reportedly road the curb all the way to the intersection and that’s where the motorcycle came to rest. The accident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Andrews was cited for operating the motorcycle without a license, failure to maintain lane, no helmet and DUI. His current condition is unknown....
