Tri-State area aviation enthusiasts will have a chance Saturday (August 16) to soar in the skies with their feet firmly planted on the ground. The Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport will host  National Aviation Day, a 75-year tradition first started by presidential proclamation. The free event is open to the public from 8:00 am until 11:00 am. It will be located at Landmark Aviation, the  airport’s fixed base operator, located one block south of the main terminal building and passenger boarding area, 2550  Laughlin View Drive in Bullhead City. There’s even a free breakfast.”  The airport’s flight schedule for the morning also includes three airline landings and departures for the public to watch. A Republic Airways Embraer E-190 flight to Kansas City is scheduled to leave at 9:00 am. Also at 9:00, a Sun Country Airlines Boeing 737 is scheduled to arrive from Duluth, Minnesota, departing again at 9:45 am for Bemidji, Minnesota. National Aviation Day has been observed in the United States each year since 1939 to celebrate the history and development of aviation. TRI-STATE AIR SERVICE GRANT CAMPAIGN REACHES NEARLY $1 MILLION IN PLEDGES

In final filings with the U.S. Department of Transportation, more than $945,000 has been committed in a local and regional campaign for matching pledges to help secure a federal air service grant for the Tri-State area. Officials from the Mohave County Airport Authority (MCAA) and Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport said the campaign has been a success, showing strong support to help match a proposed Federal Small Community Air Service Development Program (SCASDP) grant. Cash pledges exceeded $375,000, while in-kind pledges were more than $570,000, said MCAA president John Hastings. The cash pledges represent $255,000 raised locally, $100,000 in airport marketing support, and $20,000 in airport-related air service development projects with interested airlines. In-kind support, ranging from promotional materials to website information, represents $515,000 in local pledges plus $55,000 in fees the airport has agreed to waive for qualifying airlines as part of its industry-standard incentive package. The Airport will be applying for a $750,000 grant. The amount applied for is predicated on the amount collected in local pledge support. “’Local’ may be a misnomer,” noted Hastings. “In addition to the Tri-State area, we had support from people in other parts of the country who want the DOT to know that getting to and from our region by air should be easier and is commercially sustainable.” According to Airport Director Jeremy Keating, 160 letters of support were received for the grant...
