Judges have selected the top finalists for the Laughlin Area Chamber of Commerce’s 19th Annual Community Achievement Awards gala!

The annual awards event scheduled October 22 is sponsored by the Laughlin Chamber of Commerce, the Laughlin Post 60 Legion Family and the Aquarius Casino Resort. The top finalists in their categories include:

Youth Citizen of the Year — Jalynn Quibell (Laughlin High School), Taylor Evans (River Valley High School), Nicholas Achor (River Valley High School), and Paul Stoddard (Laughlin Jr./Sr. High School).

Tourism — Lloyd Shires (Riverside Resort), and Mark and Denise Villalovos (Run Laughlin).

Civic Service — Heather Petrillo, Erroll “Shorty” Spencer, and Fred Bruno.

Public Service — Officer Brian Morin (Bullhead City Police Department), Chief Rick Southey (Bullhead City Fire Department), and Lt. John Healy (Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department).

Humanitarian Award — Cassandra Cyril, Fred Doten, Karole Finkelstein, and Patty Dion.

Educator of the Year — Jessica Sessions (Mohave Accelerated Learning Center), Bryan Crabtree (Laughlin Jr./Sr. High School), Taryn Strong (Hualapai Elementary School), and Christine Williams (Colorado River Union High School District).

Community/Social Service Organization Award — S.A.I.N.T. Organization, Colorado River Women’s Council, Northern Arizona Veteran’s Resource Center, and Laughlin Elks 2872.

Entrepreneur of the Year Award — Jake Williams (Sugar Shack), Anita Bray (Javalina’s Coffee Express), Renata Faccioli (Starlight Montessori School), and Jim Theodoredis and Samantha Serrano (The Bearded Gentleman).

Small Business of the Year — Totally Awesome Printing By Colorado River Tees, Bug Emergency, Desert Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Garden, and Bentley Place Hair Design.

Large Business of the Year — Harrah’s Laughlin, Golden Nugget Laughlin, Edgewater Hotel Casino Resort, and Sam’s Club.

Green Business of the Year — Golden Nugget Laughlin, Aquarius Casino Resort, Mohave Electric Cooperative, and Mohave Shred.

Communications — Cat Smith, Rodd Cayton, Bill McMillen, and Brie Tyler.
The judging committee which is led by 2016 Citizen of the Year, Sean Hammond, spent countless hours going over hundreds of nomination forms. Judges are selected from both sides of the river, and this year the elite group includes Meg McDaniel (LVCVA), Donna Treague (Mutual of Omaha Bank), Brian Paulson (Laughlin Town Manager), and Dawn Estes (Bennett Elementary School and Laughlin Jr/Sr High School) of Nevada; and Cindy Frizelle (Tri-State Military Moms), Teri Tomlinson (Valley View Medical Center), Tom Brady (Mayor of Bullhead City), and Craig Powers (Cameron Broadcasting) of Arizona.
