President Dr. Michael Kearns says a payroll data hacking problem has been contained at Mohave Community College. The intrusion was discovered in early February and the unidentified criminals tried to use intercepted information to file tax returns while attempting to claim refunds.
Dr. Kearns said about a half dozen employees fell victim to the scam. He said they’ll each be fully reimbursed for any loss they suffered.
Kearns said various law enforcement agencies including the Mohave County Sheriff, Arizona Attorney General, IRS and the FBI were all informed of the hack attack. He said a number of other schools and institutions are also victims of a scheme that has been repeatedly perpetrated over the last couple of years.
