If Phoenix bus drivers go on strike, passengers won’t be experiencing service cutbacks until Friday. Matt Heil with the City of Phoenix says service will only be at 60-percent, which would resemble a normal Saturday schedule.

Heil says the busiest routes in West Phoenix will be the ones most greatly impacted. Fortunately, most of the light rail system is conveniently located near those most traveled routes. He also says the bus company, First Transit, will be able to bring drivers in from other areas to take up the slack caused by picketing workers in case of a possible strike.

Public transit bus drivers are voting on a new contract after the old one expired June 30th. The workers are deciding if the company’s final offer on the table is acceptable. If not, Heil says, employees could vote on a strike authorization.
