Mohave Electric Cooperative has extended tree sales for Operation Cool Shade through Friday, September 26th. Trees are currently on sale at Mohave’s Member Service office at 928 Hancock Road, Bullhead City. Business hours are Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Over 1,000 trees have been sold since tree sales began. Three different types of desert-adapted shade trees are available to Cooperative members for the low price of $9 per tree. The varieties offered, Chilean Mesquite, and Willow Acacia are recommended as being well-suited for our climate by the Master Gardeners of Bullhead City, in association with University of Arizona College of Agriculture, and the horticulture professionals of Mountain States Wholesale Nursery. The University of Arizona Mohave County Cooperative Extension Bullhead City Master Gardeners is offering a “How to Plant Your MEC Desert Landscape Tree Class,” Thursday, October 16, 2014, 2 – 3:30 pm at the Mohave County Library – 1170 Hancock Road, Bullhead City. As an added bonus, Mohave Electric will include a free energy saving, compact fluorescent bulb with each tree purchased. Operation Cool Shade encourages the use of shade trees to help manage energy and save energy dollars by reducing air conditioning usage. Tree distribution will take place on Saturday,November 14, at the Bullhead City Public Works parking lot located across the street from Bullhead City Administration Complex, 1255 Marina Blvd. For more information call (928) 763-1100.
