A murder suspect held in the Mohave County jail faces a new charge after allegedly assaulting a corrections officer. Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Trish Carter said the officer was attacked after trying to break up a fight between two inmates.

One of the inmates, David Allen James, 34, allegedly bit the officer. The corrections officer was treated at Kingman Regional Medical Center for the bite wound and for a back injury sustained during the struggle.

James awaits trial for second degree murder in the May death of Matthew Scott Porter. The 23-year-old Kingman man died of blunt force trauma to the head.
