Kingman City Council member Stuart Yocum has offered public comment regarding his May 31 arrest for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol. Yocum issued a statement near the start of the June 6 city council meeting.
“It was regrettable. It was unfortunate. Matters of this sort tend to get sensationalized, or reported sensationalistically,” Yocum said. “DUI’s are a problem, a serious problem. If you are going to get behind the wheel, don’t drink even one. Don’t have even one.”
The case would ordinarily be prosecuted in city court but the Mohave County attorney’s office will handle it as a courtesy so the city doesn’t prosecute its own elected official. Deputy County attorney Reed Weisberg will serve as prosecutor.
A pre-trial conference in Kingman Justice Court is scheduled June 27.
