The Bullhead City Police Department is investigating a series of criminal incidents that resulted in a SWAT mission standoff last Friday.
· Detectives were investigating a theft of a utility trailer where the suspects and suspect vehicle were caught on video.
· Detectives were investigating a recent burglary at K-mart where jewelry was stolen.
Upon further investigation into the K-mart burglary, police received information that the jewelry was located at a residence in the 400 block of Malibu Drive. When detectives went to this residence, the suspect’s vehicle used in the utility trailer theft was parked in the driveway.
Several people were contacted, including James David Koryta, 43, who was identified as one of the utility trailer theft suspects. Koryta was arrested for vehicle theft. Melchor Montenegro Barroso, 32, was arrested for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear.
Several others refused to come out of the residence. Suspect, Graig Mitchell Salzer, 55, refused to come out even after the SWAT team responded and deployed tear gas.
Salzer had access to and was able to tunnel his way out of the residence. He was eventually found underneath a neighbor’s trailer with a pitbull and failed to comply with police commands.
Salzer sought medical attention after the standoff and was later hospitalized in Las Vegas, NV. Charges against Salzer are pending.
The investigation continues into all of these criminal incidents.
