A dead body found on Interstate-17 near Camp Verde appears to be a victim of a hit and run.  Trooper Damon Cecil with the Arizona Department of Public Safety says the body of an American Indian in his 20’s was found on the side of the road.  Sometime later, someone called a tow truck company claiming he had hit an

animal while driving I-17.  When the tow truck company arrived, something didn’t add it.  The towing company says the front-end damage to the driver’s car was not consistent with hitting an animal and called DPS.  Cecil says detectives are now talking to the driver of the damaged car.  Cecil says it was dark when the crash occurred and it’s reasonable to believe the driver thought he hit an animal as I-17 is a major highway.  So far, the driver is not facing charges.
