Det. Mary GarciaOne of Bullhead City’s finest will soon be the first female officer to retire from the Bullhead City Police Department. Detective Mary Garcia began her career in law enforcement with the Colorado Department of Public Safety in 1982 and began working for the Bullhead City Police Department in 1992. “I have loved working for the Bullhead City Police Department and City. They have treated me so well and I’m really going to miss it,” said Detective Garcia. “I’ve never let my gender get in the way of this job. Once I put on my uniform, I’m the same as my counterparts.” During her 23 years of service with the Bullhead City Police Department, Detective Garcia has served as a Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer, a detective with G.I.I.T.E.M. (Gang & Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission) and a Narcotics Officer. Detective Garcia has served the last nine years in the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, primarily investigating crimes against children. “Detective Garcia excels at going the extra mile to ensure no rock is left upturned, no door is left unknocked, or no witness is left without contact. She has brought justice to many young victims and their families,” said Sergeant Ken Williams. “Detective Garcia has been instrumental in the success of this bureau and her absence will surely be missed.” Detective Garcia’s keen investigative skills earned her Bullhead City Police Officer of the Year in 2008. “Investigating child crimes is very difficult,” said Detective Garcia. “I’ve lost a lot of sleep. But, knowing that I’ve helped a victim or their family makes all those sleepless nights worth it.” Detective Garcia will continue to be an advocate for victims in Phoenix, AZ as a Special Investigator for the Office of Child Welfare Investigations. “I’m looking forward to this new adventure and will hopefully continue to make a difference in someone’s life,” she said. “I also have a daughter who attends Arizona State University, so it will be nice to be closer to her.” Detective Mary Garcia’s last day working at the Bullhead City Police Department is March 6th.
