An Arizona man died Sunday morning after diving off a cliff near an area referred to as Pipeline Beach, which is on the Nevada-side of the Colorado River, where the El Paso Gas pipeline crosses from Arizona. The victim had reportedly been drinking with two friends, also from Arizona, at the top of the cliffs just prior to the accident.
Laughlin authorities were dispatched to the beach shortly before 6:30 a.m. to a report of a possible drowning.
When Las Vegas Metro arrived on scene, they were directed to the location of the victim, near the shoreline by the two friends.
Lt. John Healy, commander of the Laughlin substation, said the officers attempted CPR on the victim until Clark County Fire Department paramedics arrived on scene. The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A nearby witness apparently saw the entire event while camping nearby He told police that he was using binoculars and watched as the victim dived off the cliff in an apparent attempt to reach the river, but he instead landed at the waterline.
The name of the victim has not been released.
