Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jon Christopher Whalen, 42, of Topock, early Friday (1/23) afternoon for DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors. Approximately 12:37 p.m., deputies responded to a business located in the 10100 block of Harbor Avenue regarding a male subject who had backed up his vehicle on a curb and passed out in a green Mercury. Upon arrival, deputies observed a male subject passed out in the driver seat while the vehicle was still running and the vehicle was in reverse. Deputies woke up the driver later identified as Whalen. Deputies observed Whalen’s eyes were blood shot and he had slurred speech. Medical responded. Deputies observed Whalen stumble and almost fall when he was requested to exit the vehicle. As Whalen exited the vehicle, deputies observed a pipe containing a burnt green residue. Deputies re-contacted Whalen after medical personnel evaluated him. Deputies inquired about Whalen doing field sobriety tests and Whalen said he was too high. Whalen was taken into custody without incident. A blood sample was taken from Whalen to be submitted to the DPS Crime Lab for further analysis. Whalen was transported and booked into the Mohave County Jail. The vehicle was towed from the scene. Additional charges and pending the lab work results.
