Tonight's River Valley High School homecoming game caps off a week of activities leading up to an annual contest between the Dust Devils and the Kingman High Bulldogs. The fun, however, is tempered by Friday’s homecoming dance theme: “Think Pink,” recognizing October as breast cancer awareness month. The dance will double as a fundraiser for local cancer support efforts.
The game starts at 7:00 pm, and features a float parade inside Dust Devil Stadium during halftime. The homecoming king and queen will be announced at that time. Floats and classic cars used in the parade will be on display after the game.
Also after the game is River Valley’s homecoming dance. Tickets are $25 at the door, and River Valley’s student council has pledged $5 of every ticket sold to We Care Cancer Support (WCCS) in Bullhead City. WCCS provides support and assistance to cancer patients, family members and caregivers in the Tri-state area. All types of cancer, not just breast cancer, are addressed.
Friday’s homecoming dance is non-formal; a formal “hoopcoming” dance will be held in December.
During the week, River Valley students participated in a variety of food-themed days, including “Ranch Dressing” (western attire), “Thousand Island” (tourist attire), “Caesar Dressing” (Greco-Roman dress) and “House Dressing” (Dust Devil-themed attire). Different contests and student performances also led up to homecoming.
