The River Valley Dust Devils are moving on to Round 2 of the Arizona Division IV State Basketball Tournament in Prescott Valley. Junior David Larrabee set a personal record, scoring 47 points in the Dust Devils, 60-57, win over Sedona Red Rock last night at the Prescott Valley Event Center.
Larrabee, who scored 269 goals during the regular season– more than any other high school basketball player in Arizona in any division– put the ball into the basket 15 times during last night’s game. Nine goals were three-pointers and six were 2-pts each. He also went 8/12 at the free throw line.
Larrabee, who averaged 26.1 points per game during the regular season, had no idea how many points he had scored until he was told by a reporter. Although excited about his performance, he remained humble, indicating he could not do it by himself.
“It feels awesome,” Larrabee said after the game. “I know I couldn’t do it without the support of the team.”
“They just made sure I got the ball at the right time to make the shot,” he added.
The 18th ranked Dust Devils advance to the second round, where they will play tonight (2/20) against #2 Phoenix Country Day School. The game will be played at Bradshaw Mountain High School.
