A family of five  has escaped an overnight house fire in Phoenix.  Captain Ardell Deliz with Phoenix Fire says one of the kids was awakened from a sound sleep after smelling smoke and alerted the family that the house was on fire.  The family managed to get out of the house safely with all five dogs and a turtle.  It

appears the fire started in the garage area and was spreading toward the home before firefighters knocked out the fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Deliz says neighbors claimed to hear “small explosions” coming from the garage area.  Deliz says there were no working smoke detectors inside the home and “if it wasn’t for this child waking up and alerting everybody, the consequences could have been very different.”
