Press release from December 10th, 2014

On December 9, 2014, just after 3:00 p.m. the Lake Havasu City Police Department took 18-year old Niger Noriega into custody in the 100 block of Swanson Avenue for his alleged involvement in a stabbing incident that occurred the previous day at a residence in the 2300 block of Shorewood Drive.  The incident from Shorewood Drive left 42-year old John Hubbard, a Lake Havasu City resident, with a stab wound near his left armpit that required emergency surgery at the Havasu Regional Medical Center.  The initial investigation led to the identification of Noriega as being involved in the incident along with a female companion.  Noriega and the female fled the scene in a small 2-door hatchback car. When Noriega was taken into custody he was in possession of the 2-door hatchback car that had been described by witnesses fleeing the Shorewood Drive incident.  Detectives took over the investigation and have now identified the female as 22-year old Jessica Johnson.  The vehicle that Noriega and Johnson used to flee from Shorewood Drive is registered to Johnson.  The vehicle was seized and taken to the Lake Havasu City Police Department pending the issuance of a search warrant. Investigators learned that Noriega allegedly confronted Hubbard regarding a dispute over money that was owed to Noriega that then escalated into a fight that left Hubbard with the stab wound, a black eye, and two small lacerations near his left ear.  Hubbard is recovering and listed in stable condition.  The hospital had been in lockdown since the incident but that was lifted once Noriega was taken into custody. Niger Noriega was charged with two counts of aggravated assault. At his initial appearance, Noriega received a $100,000 cash only bond and was later transferred to the custody of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.  Jessica Johnson is considered an investigative lead and detectives are actively seeking to locate her for questioning. Any person with information as to the whereabouts of Jessica Johnson is asked to call the Lake Havasu City Police Department at (928) 855-1171.  Anonymous information can also be called into Lake Havasu Silent Witness at 928-854-TIPS (8477).
