Two people were sent to the hospital after a fiery collision on Highway 95, eight miles south of Interstate 40. Officers with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, along with emergency crews with the Desert Hills and Lake Havasu City Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene at 9:02 p.m., Saturday night.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a northbound Jeep collided with the rear end of a tractor trailer rig, rupturing one of the gas tanks. The collision and the leaking gasoline sparked a fire that engulfed the Jeep. Other passing motorists stopped and pulled the driver out of the Jeep before the flames reached him.
Both the driver of the Jeep and the semi-truck were transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center. Their current conditions are unknown at this time.
The collision and subsequent fire forced the Arizona Department of Transportation to close Highway 95 for more than two hours while officers conducted their investigation and emergency crews extinguished the fire and tended to the injured drivers.
