Golden Valley Fire District (GVFD) Dave Cunningham sprays water on the smoldering remains of a brush fire that occurred Friday, March 25, 2016, along a 5 foot by 100 feet area at Milepost 20 adjacent to the eastbound lanes of Highway 68. GVFD Captain Dave Martin helped out by working on the smoldering area with a shovel. The fire could have been worse and spread to the desert if it were not for the rapid response by fire district personnel. Fire district officials stress that tossing lighted materials out of vehicles is not only illegal, but could cause death if the fire spreads to a structure in which someone is residing in.
