The future of the Lake Mohave Ranchos Fire District (LMRFD) will be contemplated next week. Options include pursuit of an election to return to a stand-alone fire district, or a consolidation or intergovernmental agreement approach that would have the Kingman-based Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District (NACFD) continue to provide service within the LMRFD boundary. The LMRFD was nearly $1-million upside down in February, 2013 when the Mohave County Board of Supervisors dissolved the elected fire board and hired specialist attorney John Flynn to administer the District. Flynn quickly ordered drastic personnel cuts, property liquidation and elimination of a $437,000 line of credit. Further, Flynn contracted with NACFD and Fire Chief Pat Moore to provide service within the LMRFD and portions of the communities of Meadview and Dolan Springs. Flynn said the LMRFD has essentially been returned to financial solvency.
Flynn’s contract to administer the district is coming to an end in February and County Administrator Mike Hendrix said the Board of Supervisors will be briefed during their January 20 meeting.
