LAUGHLIN– Investigators believe a fire near the Avi Hotel and Casino Monday night was intentionally set. Crews with the Mohave Valley and Fort Mojave Mesa Fire Departments were dispatched to the blaze shortly before 7:30.

While initial concerns were that the casino, itself, was ablaze, firefighters managed to contain the blaze to an outside linen storage shed before it could spread to the casino or any other facility at the resort. The shed was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived on scene. It was quickly contained and extinguished.

Mohave Valley Fire Marshal Don Gibson believes the fire may have been arson. Two suspects were detained near the scene of the fire– one adult and one juvenile. They were questioned by investigators, but no arrests have been made.

The incident remains under investigation.
