It’s a girl!  The first baby born of the new year in Phoenix came
into this world just after midnight.  Ava Crystal Mahoney made her debut
at 12:10 a.m. at Abrazo Health’s Phoenix Baptist Hospital.  Little Ava
was holding out for New Year’s Eve celebrations to make her arrival.
According to Ava’s parents, the
first

baby of the new year took her
time getting here.  Mom Erin Hamilton says
“It’s
really awesome to bring in the new year with our new baby. We weren’t
expecting it. This was definitely a surprise. She was actually supposed
to be due December
22nd.” Ava Crystal Mahoney was 8 pounds, 10 ounces and 21 inches long,
born to Hamilton and her boyfriend, Matthew Mahoney, both of Phoenix.
The hospital gave the parents a certificate and will put the birth on
their web site. “And then they also toasted with
us on New Year’s after she was born, to kick of the new year right.”
Hamilton says she and Ava a doing just fine.

A baby
was born at the Arrowhead Hospital in Glendale at 1:18 a.m. and another
baby arrived at 1:30 a.m. at the West Valley Hospital in Goodyear.
