Golden Valley Fire District Board of Directors will meet 6:00PM Wednesday, May 6, 2015 to review and approve a tentative budget for Fiscal Year 2015-2016. This is the first budget that will include the recently approved ambulance service, which will be the first since FY2010 that will show an increase of revenues for the District. The meeting will occur at its regularly scheduled location, the Public Safety Training Center located at 423 South Colorado Road in Golden Valley.
In spite of the decreasing tax revenues from a high of $4 Million in the 2009-2010 fiscal year to a projected $1.5 Million for 2015-2016, the District still maintained $1.4 Million in reserves as of March 31, 2015.
Also on the agenda will be discussion of funding the cost of dump fees through ERACE for cleanup of Golden Valley. A group of citizens has recently formed, spearheaded by resident Wayne Hollins, committed to cleaning up Golden Valley area, including several illegal dump sites. Board member Steven Robinson has proposed that the Board fund $500 and direct staff to prepare an Intergovernmental Agreement with Mohave County’s ERACE program, which is committed to the cleanup and enforcement of laws regarding illegal dumping.
“Golden Valley Fire District has been a good neighbor and citizen of Golden Valley, with the sponsorship of Blood Drives, going into the school with fire safety awareness programs and other efforts,” stated Robinson. “The cleanup reduces fire danger to a degree, plus it helps improve our sense of community and pride. It’s a win-win all the way around.”
There are other minor issues on the agenda, with the Budget discussions expected to occupy the majority of the discussion.
