Governor Doug Ducey has been named Arizonan of the Year by the Arizona Republic. The paper cited Ducey’s solving of the state budget and education funding problems. Local Pollster Mike O’Neil on the nomination

“It was an appropriate call. I think in particular the education deal had festered for years and you had two sides dug in and he basically executed the art of political compromise.” O’Neil says being named Arizonan of the Year is a feather in Ducey’s cap. “People would generally rather have it than not. I think it’s an acknowledgement that he got some things done and a feather in a cap is I think exactly the way I’d put it. I wouldn’t want to overrate it in terms of significance but it is a feather in your cap.”
