The road race will begin on Saturday, June 20 in Kirkwood, Missouri and will end next Saturday, June 28 in Santa Monica, California. Residents can catch a glimpse of the older model vehicles being used in the rally during a designated stop in Kingman on June 26. Drivers will stop for lunch in Kingman and round out the night in Lake Havasu City.
The Great Race is an antique, vintage, and collector car competitive controlled-speed endurance road rally on public highways. Each team is required to pass through four to seven checkpoints along the route, where their time will be recorded.
According to their website, the oldest car in the race varies by year but in 2012 there was a 1907 Renault and a Ford Model T. In 2011, a 1911 Velie took first place in the event.
