GOLDEN VALLEY-John Leonard Sanchez, 55, of Golden Valley, was arrested by Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies on Sunday, June 14 on suspicion of two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon per domestic violence, disorderly conduct with a weapon per domestic violence and possession of weapon by a prohibited person, felonies.
Around 12:30 p.m., deputies responded to a subject shooting a firearm at others outside of a residence in the 3800 block of North Bagdad Road. Upon arrival, deputies learned no one was injured and the suspect identified as Sanchez had left the scene.
Deputies contacted a 50-year-old female victim and a 28-year-old male victim. The female victim said that she and her son were at the residence visiting a relative when Sanchez, her ex-boyfriend, pulled up in his vehicle and started shooting at them as she and her son were walking to the front of the residence from the backyard. Deputies contacted the male victim and he said that he told Sanchez they needed to talk when he parked his vehicle in the driveway. The male victim further said that Sanchez quickly exited the vehicle with a gun in his hand and started shooting.
A short time later, deputies responded to a property in the 3000 block of North Highway 93 and located Sanchez with a firearm on the property. Sanchez dropped the weapon and began running north up a mountain side. The .22 caliber pistol was seized. Deputies ordered Sanchez to stop, but he continued running. Eventually, Sanchez complied with deputy’s commands and began walking down the mountain side where he was taken into custody. During conversations with Sanchez, he said that he shot at his feet.
A computer history check showed Sanchez to have been a convicted felon. He was taken to the Mohave County jail on those charges.
