The Lake Havasu Marine Association is inviting chili and salsa chefs to compete in the 5th Annual Lake Havasu Chili Cookoff during the 26th Annual Lake Havasu Boat Show. This year’s competition is offering a record $5,000+ in prize money and is a fully-sanctioned ICS chili cook-off with three categories consisting of true Texas red chili (no beans or fillers), chili verde, and salsa, all of which will be judged by a selected panel of judges.

The red chili and chili verde must be made on-site with cooking times between 10am-1pm for chili verde and 12pm-3pm for red chili. Each chili cook will also be serving “people’s choice” chili which must consist of beans or fillers to the hungry public who will vote on their favorite for People’s Choice prizes.

Cooks wanted and everyone is welcome to join in the competition. The winners of all three categories will be eligible to participate in the ICS World Finals in October. Sign up through the ICS website at

Tasting kits are available to the public for only $5, available from 11am-4pm.

Red Chili entry fee is $35, Chili Verde $25 and Salsa is $15. To compete in an ICS category (Red Chili, Chili Verde or Salsa) you must also be a member of the ICS (International Chili Society) and a $60 membership fee is required. Membership fee may be pre-paid online or the morning of the event. No ICS membership needed for People’s Choice category, entry fee only $25.

All proceeds of this event go to the Lake Havasu High School Booster Club. Vendor spaces for non-cooks are also available. Contact the ICS or the Chili Cookoff organizer, Allene Macklin (; 928-566-1336) for more information.
