City Manager Charlie Cassens has unveiled plans for development of a $17-million hotel project at the English Village during the October 12 Lake Havasu City Council meeting. A conceptual rendering of the project proposed by Missouri-based Virtual Realty Enterprises was displayed for the Council.
“What you’re seeing is a 123 room six story, extended stay hotel property that will obviously have expansive views of the lake and the channel,” Cassens said. The building will total 110,000 sq. ft.
“The facility includes a bar and restaurant, fitness room, 3,500 sq. ft. meeting and event space, a business center, a third party restaurant and a convenience market,” Cassens said. A formal groundbreaking occurred on site on October 20.
“The project will create over 150 new constructon jobs and 93 new permanent and part time jobs,” Cassens said. Completion is expected in mid-2017.
Mayor Mark Nexsen noted some may be concerned that the building is six stories high. But he said that’s only two stories higher than the London Bridge and will have less visual impact than the three, eight story tall hotel towers previously contemplated on the same property.
“When it’s all said and done, it’ll be a terrific project,” Nexsen said.
