A Lake Havasu City woman will spend a year in jail for stealing money from a man after convincing him she was his daughter. Judge Billy Sipe imposed a 365 day county jail term for Julie Borrelli, 56, during a July 19 sentencing hearing in Kingman.

Judge Sipe noted that Borrelli years ago convinced the victim that she was his daughter from an affair decades ago, gaining his trust to the point where he allowed her control of his accounts and finances. She pled guilty to stealing just under $59,000 from the man, but Sipe said his loss was likely far more than that.

Borrelli pled guilty to a reduced charge of attempted theft. Judge Sipe said Borrelli’s lack of previous criminal history was a factor in his decision not to send her to prison.

Sipe placed Borrelli on probation for three years. He also ordered that she’ll spend a full year in the Mohave County jail and that she begin reimbursing the victim with restitution following her release.
