The excessive heat warning that’s been issued for the Phoenix-metro area this weekend has turned deadly.  Sergeant James Holmes with Phoenix police says a 12-year-old boy was hiking the Sidewinder Trail with a family friend when the child became ill.  The adult who was with the boy attempted to call for help, but his cell

phone didn’t work.  The adult then tried to carry the child down the trail, but was unable to continue and left the boy on the mountain while he ran for help.  The child was unconscious when Phoenix fire arrived and airlifted him to the hospital.  The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital from heat-related illness.
