About The Author
Butch Meriwether joined the United States Marine Corps in January 1964 when he turned 17 and calls his career in the Corps as an adventure. He served in Vietnam during 1967, 68, 69 and 70. He began his journalistic and photographic career during 1974 while serving in the Marines as a staff sergeant in the public relations field. He worked as an editor of three different newspapers, traveled for the Marines as a photojournalist and has been garnered with numerous local and national awards for both journalism and photography. Butch retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1984 as a gunnery sergeant after almost 21 years of service and then worked as a lifestyle editor for a California newspaper for a short period of time. Butch decided to switch careers by working as a private investigator for 18 years in California and Washington; however he continued to dabble with freelance journalism and photojournalism. He has resided in Golden Valley since he relocated to Arizona in 2002 after a four-year stint in Washington. He is active in journalism and photography as a hobby, and continues his freelance journalism and photojournalism career by helping out various businesses, charitable, political and fraternal organizations with publicity. His articles, commentaries and photographs have been widely published in the various local, state media and national publications, and he currently has an online bog on a local newspaper’s website. Butch currently volunteers his services as the public information officer for the Golden Valley Fire District and is a member of the Mohave County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Kingman Unit.
