A murder trial is underway at the Mohave County courthouse in downtown Kingman. Attorneys presented opening statements Tuesday in the trial of Robert Adkins, 52. Adkins is charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult and second degree murder in the Christmas Eve, 2013 death of his roommate, Michael Sudkamp, 53. Prosecutor Bob Moon told jurors that Adkins told investigators stories about falls his roommate had endured. But he also countered that 27 rib fractures and other injuries Sudkamp suffered did not result from falls. Defense attorney Brad Rideout said that Adkins will testify that he did not kill Sudkamp. And he told jurors they must acquit Adkins because the state will not meet the necessary burden of proof.
