It’s almost one year since President Obama’s Executive Order to conditionally shield some immigrants from deportation. But a Federal court order has suspended that action, and Arizona immigrant activists are fighting back. Carlos Garcia with Puente says activists will be marching
November 20th, demanding Governor Doug Ducey remove Arizona from that lawsuit. Garcia says, instead of things getting better a year later for immigrants who qualify under the Executive Order, they’ve actually gotten worse with families continuing to be separated and incarcerations.
The President’s order included requiring immigrants undergo a background check and pay taxes in order to temporarily avoid deportation. The November 20th march falls on the one year anniversary of Obama’s announcement. The march will start at 3 p.m., first to the State Capitol, then to a Downtown Phoenix jail, and finally to Phoenix Police headquarters.
