A
Fair To Remember
KINGMAN, AZ
Are
the days of the ol' fashioned county fair gone? Not in Kingman,
where the 62nd annual Mohave County Fair will kick off this coming
Thursday, September 11th at 9am. Organizers have dubbed this year's
four-day gala, "It's a Jungle Out There!"
Traditionally held at the Mohave County Fairgrounds, this year's
event features livestock competitions with 4-H and Future Farmers
of America (FFA) entries, a 4-H dog show, strolling clowns and magicians,
as well as plenty of musical acts.
On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, independent country music recording
artist Sarah Wilson headlines the main stage. (To view Wilson's
website, complete with her music -- CLICK
HERE). There are also a variety of other musical acts featured,
which are sure to keep audiences entertained all four days. There
are Classic Rock acts, Bluegrass bands, a Johnny and June Cash tribute
with the Jimmie Ray Band, the Doo Wah Riders and the Kid 'n Nic
Variety Show.
Sunday's events open at 10am, which also marks the start of entries
being taken for the fair's annual Talent Show that starts at 2pm.
Following the talent competition is the Back2Back Band, with the
four-day festivities coming to a close Sunday night at 6pm.
Admission for the entire family is an affordable $5 each day for
persons 12 and up. Seniors 62-years of age and older, as well as
kids 4-11 will be admitted for a reduced rate of $2 each and children
three-and-under are free. Parking each day is $1. There's also a
huge carnival and midway planned for each night.

Millions
have seen the YouTube video of "Christian the Lion"
reuniting in Africa with the two young men who bought him from
the Harrod’s department store in London in 1969. They kept
him for over a year until he became too big to handle and he was
released into the wild in Africa. A year after that, the two tried
to see if they could track down Christian once again. Remarkably,
they found him, it was videotaped, and the lion approached them
slowly at first. Christian then rushes toward them and affectionately
"hugs" them — provoking tears from nearly everyone
who views the video on YouTube. Now, Sony Pictures will bring
the story of Christian and the two men, John Rendall and Anthony
"Ace" Bourke, to the big screen, buying the rights of
their 1972 book, "A Lion Called Christian." To see this
remarkable and touching video, CLICK

A large
and intimate collection of items that belonged to Hollywood
legend Marilyn Monroe has been discovered over 46 years after
her tragic death. The memorabilia - including personal notes,
photographs, financial documents, furs, jewelry and perfume
- were packed up in the immediate aftermath of Marilyn’s
death from an overdose in 1962. The items were recovered from
her Los Angeles home by her former business manager Inez Melson.
“Vanity Fair” magazine will tell the story in its
October edition, which features a photo of Marilyn on the cover.

| Microsoft
launched its latest television marketing campaign featuring Jerry
Seinfeld during Thursday night's NFL season opener on NBC, but
viewers were left scratching their heads trying to figure out
what it was supposed to be all about. The minute-long commercial
featured Seinfeld encountering Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates trying
on shoes at a discount shoe outlet at a mall (at one point the
billionaire displays his discount card) and giving Gates advice
about his selection. There is no mention of Windows and hardly
a mention of computers. In fact, the commercial appears to advertise
... nothing.

Talk
show host, David Letterman says his jokes about presidential contender
John McCain being too old are "not entirely fair" and
“an easy laugh.” He says comedians have had a tougher
time cracking jokes about McCain's Democratic rival, Barack Obama.
David points out -- "I don't think comics have a way to get
in there," he said. "There's nothing automatically that
you can go to." Meanwhile, he says he’d love to have
his rival Jay Leno on his show as soon as he leaves NBC’s
Tonight show next year. Letterman can’t believe the network’s
letting him go. |
Many Americans
may want to know more about Sarah Palin, the new Republican
Vice President candidate, but not Oprah Winfrey. She says she’s
not interested in having the governor of Alaska on her show.
Oprah is a Barack Obama supporter, but she says that’s
not the reason –because he won’t be on her talk
show either. Oprah made the comments after reports circulated
that there was a battle among her and her staff over having
Palin on. She says there hasn’t been any discussions nor
will there be any. Any appearances by any of the candidates
will have to come after the election.

It
was just announced that Tobey Maguire will be back to playing Spider-Man
in the fourth big-screen installment — and director Sam Raimi
will return to direct yet another expensive movie. The news ends
more than a year of hemming and hawing, denials, reversals and unconfirmed
speculation. There is still no deal in place for Kirsten Dunst,
who played Peter Parker's love interest, Mary-Jane Watson, or for
an actor to play the main villain. It may be Dylan Baker in a return
of his character, Dr. Curt Connors, who becomes the super villain
Lizard. In the comics version of Spiderman, he suffers an adverse
reaction to a serum designed to re-grow his missing limb. The movie
is not scheduled to hit theaters until May, 2011. |
Producers
of NBC’s long-running hit medical drama, ER, have confirmed
Anthony Edwards, who played Dr. Mark Greene, will be returning to
the TV show for a guest appearance. Edwards, one of the original
stars, was written out in 2002 when his character died from a brain
tumor. So, howx will this take place?? It’s believed Anthony’s
appearance will be contained within flashback sequences. Another
original cast member, Noah Wyle, will also return to star in four
episodes of this final season. There is now speculation that George
Clooney will surprise everyone and return as well to the show that
made him famous. |
Too
Good To Be True? – Never!
When nice things happen, it’s in the “Good News Report.”
TSN is zeroing in on positive, uplifting stories with a special
type of news reporting. We all know there are plenty of bad things
happening out there on a daily basis. Is the good news being overlooked
or too often put aside? The “Good News Report” will
focus on uplifting and yes -- feel-good stories.
It might be about something heroic in which a life is saved, a dog
finding its way back home after a 400 mile journey, a new business
opening up providing jobs and a better economy for the Tri State,
or a good deed that is worth remembering. The “Good News Report”
will air news from the area, state, region, nation, and world and
show that sometimes hidden out there among the bad, are many special
happy occurrences worth reporting.
If you know of something personally or hear of a story being unnoticed,
perhaps from the Internet, let us know. It might make the “Good
News Report” and thus, make others feel better that day as
well.

FROM THE BAYOU |
Know as
the "Ragin Cajun," Doug Kershaw, one of America’s
great fiddle players, has been keeping audiences entertained
at the Riverside Resort in Laughlin for quite some time. He
returns to Don's Celebrity Theatre tonight and tomorrow at 8pm
with the Cajun spice that only he can deliver live. See story
below.

"Ragin'
Cajun" Kershaw Returns
Doug
Kershaw, who is a key player in the promotion and revival of a once
disappearing "Cajun Culture," was born on January 24, 1936,
in Tiel Ridge, Louisiana (on an island just off the Gulf of Mexico)
to parents Rita and Jack Kershaw. He has three brothers -- Ed, Nelson
and Russell. His origins are in the heart of Cajun country, where French,
not English, is the native language.
Kershaw made his first network television appearance on the premier
of the "Johnny Cash Show" in the 1960's. The performance turned
millions of people on to his talents. Among them were execs with Warner
Brothers Records, with whom he signed a long-term recording contract.
Kershaw's many recordings have been steady sellers and not only with
country audiences, but also spanning all categories. Songs such as "Diggy
Diggy Lo," "Cajun Joe," and "Rita Put Your Black
Shoes On," are familiar tunes to Doug Kershaw fans. However, none
of his works reached the fame of his 1961 autobiographical recording
of one of the many songs he wrote, "Louisiana Man." The song
is considered to have immortalized his family and sold millions of copies
over the years. In fact, "Louisiana Man" was the first song
ever broadcast back to earth from the moon by the Apollo 12 lunar mission
in 1969.
Meanwhile, Kershaw takes his Cajun heritage very seriously. Often, he
sings in French, with the lyrics and melodies learned during his childhood.
He loves to perform and makes his concerts fun and enjoyable for his
audience with no plans to retire. He is also very personable and remembers
his fans, often making himself available after a performance to talk
to them -- especially in the familar territory of the Riverside Resort
where he returns every year.
On a personal note, Doug and Pam Kershaw were married on June 21, 1975
at the Houston Astrodome. They were married before an Astros game and
Doug gave a concert after the game ended. He and Pam have five sons
-- Douglas, Victor, Zachary, Tyler and Elijah, along with two grandsons.
Following in Doug's musical footsteps, his son Tyler is often the band's
drummer and all of his sons are musically inclined.
Currently, Kershaw is busy writing his autobiography and he continues
to record new albums. He finally recorded one in French called, "Two
Step Fever." He also has a live album that was recorded live at
Lake of the Torches Casino in Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, on November
11, 2000.
Kershaw takes the stage tonight at 8pm in Don's Celebrity Theatre at
the Riverside Resort. Tickets are $26 (two-for-one tickets for locals
with ID) and can be purchased at the entertainment ticket office or
call 702-298-2535 ext 616.
