An inmate at the state prison in Golden Valley has pled guilty to aggravated assault upon a corrections officer. The plea agreement convicts Jorge Rodriguez, 22, of assaulting a sergeant at the prison last May, two months before hundreds of inmates rioted at the privately operated facility.
Prosecutor Ken Skousen said Rodriguez attacked the sergeant when the sergeant and another officer were involved in taking a water bottle away from another inmate. The sergeant was struck several times in the face and head, Skousen said.
Terms of the deal have Rodriguez facing up to two years more in prison when he is sentenced on March 11. Rodriguez is already serving a five year prison term for an assault conviction out of Maricopa County.
